of a front page:
- Drop caps: The first letter of the article (in bold/capital)
- Demographic Audience Profiling

- LOOKING AT A VIBE MAGAZINE COVER OF CIARA:
- Audience= Male- she’s naked , (objectification and gratification)
- Masthead= the title. In this case it’s VIBE. It’s behind Ciara because she is the main focus and they are universally recognised. Largest font on the front cover.
- Semiotics= Denotations and connotations. Denotations are what you see (signifier). Connotations are what meanings/symbols are given or associated with the denotations (signified).
- Denotation of Ciara- sexy, young naked black female. Connotations – flirty, seductive, sexy, strong.
- Codes and conventions= main model image
- Shot type= long shot (head to toe). A male audience want to see her whole body
- Main cover line (bit of info that relates to the main model). The second selling point of the magazine. Anchorage (the piece of text gives more meaning to the image, and the image relates back the meaning to the text. It anchors more connotations towards the image). “Stand up! Ciara”- she’s crouching, it makes the audience want to search for a picture of her standing up. Sexual connotations. It’s anchoring meaning to the image.
- Pull quote “I’m not gonna hold back too much”- sexual connotations- revealing more
- 3-4 colours used. 2 different fonts.
